Return to Papua 2011 - Carstensz Pyramid

It is with great pleasure and a sense of excitement that I can now announce my return to Papua in October 2011. I have agreed terms with a local agent to join an international expedition to climb Carstensz Pyramid, with departure scheduled on 24th October 2011.

We will fly first to Timika in Mimika Regency then charter a light aircraft to fly us to the remote airstrip at Ilaga village, from where we start a 6-day trek in to the Sudirman mountains. The local agent will handle all local access issues, which blighted my attempts to climb Puncak Mandala last year.

The expedition will last 18 days in total and I am now working hard on my fitness to ensure I'm in peak condition by the time I depart for Indonesia. This expedition will give me the opportunity to complete a photographic record of Papua's few remaining and fast-shrinking glaciers; this was one of the main objectives of my Australasia 3 Peaks expedition last year.
